More than 2500 ascidian species are known. They live on sea bottom and are common in all oceans and seas. Usually ascidians are described as sessile organisms with sac-like body firmly attached to the substratum. In reality the shape of the different ascidian species may be very diverse, and sometimes it is hard to recognize that this organism belongs to Ascidiacea.
